<BODY> <h1>A modern day Cinderella of sorts, designer Amy Jo Gladstone is a firm believer that a pair of sublime slippers may just make all the difference in the world. And so her story goes. Once upon a shopping trip, she set out to find just the right pair of comfortable (and cute of course) shoes and alas, there was nothing of the sort on the market. Style had totally surrendered to comfort. She knew there was much to be done. So, on the heels of a decade long career as a costume jewelry designer, Gladstone set her artful eye and tired soles on manufacturing the most easy-on-the-feet, fashionable flats in the kingdom. Perhaps best known for her delicious (and habit forming) slippers, Amy Jo has been crafting her handmade lifestyle collection of custom creations since 1995. About seven years ago she expanded the firm to include one of the last remaining shoe manufacturing facilities in the New York area. In her constant quest for comfort and forward thinking designs, Amy also creates beyond-the-bedroom shoe styles for day, play and evening based on what she calls the slipper principle. You can be sure that each and every pair feels just as cozy as her infamous slippers just slide yourself into her work. She does. Not a pair of shoes is made or even entertained before she thinks about them from the inside out. Could we add more padding here? Will that piece rub? Are they girly and whimsical? Sexy and sensible? Would you want them in your closet? Ok, now lets take them for a test drive. When youre feet feel good and look good, you just feel like smiling, said Gladstone to a bunch of buyers eyeing her new collection. You dont want to go anywhere when your feet hurt, right, says Gladstone in her low-key sales pitch. The only place youll want to go is home! Trade show sales staff from all of the other booths at her shows clamor to get their hands on an I-can-stand-in-them-all-day pair. Today the Amy Jo Gladstone collection consists of over 1000 pair of handcrafted styles a season. Slippers and evening shoes that look just as fashionable laying about your stylish home as the do on your feet, along with her whimsical flats (nothing over a slight wedge or comfy kitten heel leaves the factory). From custom monograms, to needlepoint embroideries, even yoga mom styles. Each shoe is set off by surprising interior fabric patterns and prints and special details and every pink and chocolate box complete with her promise that if the shoe fits, you can be sure it will feel as good as it looks. The clock strikes midnight and Gladstone knows, there is not a princess in the land that would leave behind one of her shoes.
